Jamie Jamie Sparrow

Despite my formal education, most of what I know comes from relentless writing and an insatiable curiosity for people - the way they talk, love, dream, and awkwardly pretend they didn’t just eat watermelon off the floor ...

Despite that, I visited Literature courses at the Humboldt University for 2.5 years, including Screenwriting and attended masterclasses with Mindy Kaling (2025) and Jenji Kohan (2024).

I keep my heart wide open wherever I go - from the streets of Amsterdam to the jungles of Sri Lanka, London’s theaters and a diner in the middle of nowhere USA.

Meaning

However brilliant and refined we may be, humans have an uncanny talent for miscommunicating in the most spectacular ways - despite all our eloquent words and meticulously crafted logic. I find joy in telling stories about people whose circumstances may be extraordinary, yet whose emotions and values resonate universally. There is something deeply beautiful in recognizing oneself in the unfamiliar.

Because telling stories means connecting people, diving into the small and big experiences that make each person unique. Everyone carries something within them that longs to be heard. And that’s the superpower of writing for visual media – we show each other that we want to see and understand one another; that feelings and hopes truly matter.

Background

I live and grew up midst the neon colours of (comic) book stores and late-night movie-marathons in Berlin, this vibrant city that inspires me every day and a much smaller town in Brandenburg, where sheep are named after 80s Musicians and love letters look like graffiti and stickers on sticky red lights. I spent a good part of my youth trying to understand how my classmates chose who to support, who to mock and who to follow. Nowadays, alongside my (beloved) work as an actress and writer, I volunteer in the field of mental health and support fellow humans in their everyday life. I'm part of the queer community and currently exploring the cultural facets of my Bulgarian and Belgian roots with great curiosity and a lot of respect for the people that came before me. I'm in my 20s, coming closer to "the magnificant 30s" and am still trying to find out, what that really means and why no one I meet seems to actual feel like "being a grown-up". I am still learning to accept, that the world is different than my 12-year old self imagined what it would be like.

Favourite Past Projects

The Sound of Song and Whisper - beautifully blends gentle emotions with a turbulent world and was a first in many ways

Ku’damm 56 - where Sven Bohse allowed me to scream my feelings into his world

A Request for Citizenship - a deep dive into a dystopian world filled with green screens, androids and an incredible team lead by Alma Almeida.

I also thoroughly enjoyed working on the new Sherlock Holmes series, that is currently being released – and as a lifelong Star Trek fan, being part of Star Trek Infinite still feels surreal.

Inspiration

I'm continuously awed by films like Joe Wright’s "Pride and Prejudice" (2005) and John Hughes "The Breakfast Club", as well as the music of Queen and plays like 2024s "Nye". It’s amazing how many new perspectives we gain through our projects, constantly expanding our understanding of the world.

When I’m not in front of the camera or writing, I love planning film events with my loved ones and spending hours in cozy cafés and mystical libraries.

I’m looking forward to many new stories and to creating inspiring worlds with amazing teams.

Life is too loud, too wild, too lively for Aimée, who tries her best to be invisible. When she falls in love with the sculpture of a quiet woman, everything starts to change. For the first time, she feels a connection to someone outside of her bubble and needs to ask herself, who she is feeling it for – the white figure carved from stone or the version of herself, she finally has a chance to get to know?

What happens when you hand a camera and microphone to a group of children and let them record whatever they want? What if you ask them what growing up feels like? The bravery they show in facing the future, the empathy they have for their past, and the wit they bring to the present are uncanny for the adult mind – a perfect reminder to keep a piece of childhood alive inside.
